Phytosaur Smilosuchus Mini Skull Replica
Phytosaurs are some of the most common Triassic fossils found in what is now North America and Europe. Smilosuchus gregorii lived about 220 million years ago and was a top predator in the Triassic waterways.
The original skull that this replica was made from is over 4 feet (1.24 meters) long and comes from an animals with a length of 26 feet (8 meters). The pointed teeth suggest that it was a carnivore, and bite marks from phytosaurs are common in other Triassic animal fossils.
Made from a casting of the skull found in Petrified Forest National Park's Rainbow Forest Museum at the south entrance of the park. New technology allowed us to do a full 3-D scan of the original skull and scale it down to generate this intricately detailed, smaller-scale skull. A great collector's item or teaching tool!
