Petrified Forest National Park is situated in a high-desert grassland, preserving 50,260 acres of wilderness. Many forms of wildlife make their homes in the Petrified Forest, including hundreds of species of resident and migratory birds.
This series of ornaments celebrates some of the most commonly spotted birds in the park.
The males of the species, Bullock Orioles (Icterus bullockii) display a warm orange belly, a black back, cap, and throat with a line through its eye, and black and white wings. The female has much softer colors.
Bullock’s Orioles are songbirds that are fun to watch as they acrobatically search for food at the tips of twigs and branches.
They are summer residents of Petrified Forest National Park.
